A Day with Britten and Mozart Dr Lucy Walker, Andrew Quartermain and Pro Corda young musicians. Friday 03 August 2018

After our  Art Exhibition in June/July we have arranged this special day of music for our members on August 3rd.  2018 is the Golden Jubilee of The Arts Society and Pro Corda, so it is appropriate that in this special year we should celebrate in music together.  The event will be  at Pro Corda’s premises at Leiston Abbey.  The cost, including lunch, is £30 per person. There will be a cash bar at lunchtime.  Each member may bring  guests, but note that the total number of places is limited to one hundred, so book early!

The day will start at 10.30 a.m. for coffee and will then proceed as follows:

11.00 am      ‘Great Britten: Lowestoft boy to Life Peer’                     

Presentation by Dr. Lucy Walker, Director of Public Programming and Learning of the  Britten–Pears Foundation

12.00 Noon       Buffet Lunch and for those who wish a tour around The Lady Chapel and Leiston Abbey

Tables will also be available to sit in the courtyard gardens for lunch (weather permitting)

2.00 pm             ‘What is Pro Corda’

2.30 pm           ‘The Genius of Young Britten and Mozart’  

A concert by Pro Corda Intermediate Grade pupils (14 to 16 years old).  The programme will include some works by Britten as well as      Mozart’s early string quartets.  We understand there might also be a surprise item!

3.15 pm           Presentation of The Arts Society East Suffolk bursary to a young student

3.30 pm           Tea and biscuits served

4.00 pm           Event closes.
